Review for Spotify

APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

4 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: Free
  • TASTY: Find and stream music from the Internet or listen to your local tracks.
  • BUMMER: Not really tablet-optimized; uses lots of data, so probably best saved for Wi-Fi only.
  • COOL: Connecting with friends and listening to their favorite playlists.

Spotify’s Android app is a great way to listen to music on your tablet, period.

Spotify combines the ability to listen to your own local music files with the capability of streaming tracks from the Internet by searching through the service’s massive music database. It also includes a number of social networking features, allowing you to: link up with friends, see what they’re listening to, and share playlists. It’s a great way to find music by your favorite and new artists, available in an ad-supported free version or with a monthly subscription.

The app itself isn’t really especially made for tablets, and while it’s perfectly functional, it feels like it wastes the big screen. But you’re not watching Spotify, you’re listening to it – and the app makes all the functions of the service available to you even when you’re not on your computer.
