MTV News aims at a young audience with its Android app

To stay up with the latest in the lives of Lady Gaga and the Twilight cast, download MTV News to your Android phone.

As you might expect, based on the news content and writing style, this app is geared to a younger audience. MTV News does cover a lot of ground — everything in celebrity and popular entertainment news.

What makes MTV so notable though is how customizable it is. Because what's popping up on MTV News encompasses such a wide selection of topics, the My News section of the app allows you to design your data feed based on your own interests in entertainment, whether that be music, celebrity, shows (television), movies or gaming news.

Users can also experience their news via a variety of multi-media platforms, featuring videos, photos and blogs, in addition to published articles. Sharp, high-res photos are featured throughout the app, with a photo for every news story, which brings a lot of color to MTV News.

There's a pretty wide selection of videos, from news reports and interviews to behind-the-scenes footage on legendary music videos. All of the videos I watched loaded without difficulty, and had fantastic audio and video quality. The only bummer to note here is that instead of keeping me within the boundaries of MTV News, the app would bounce me to an external video player app, which made for a more clunky-than-necessary experience.

Overall, the app isn't text heavy and relies greatly on bight colors and lots of photos to catch the eye. Because everything is so well-organized by category, users shouldn't have any difficulty finding exactly what they're looking for.
