APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

3 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: Free
  • TASTY: Displays flickr photo streams for artists you are grooving to!
  • BUMMER: Playlist creation isn't intuitive.
  • COOL: All your music and playlists in one handy, free app.

It's like a cute, little and helpful (non-angry) bird flew into your Android phone, and organized all your music. "It" is the free Songbird Beta app for Android. At first, I was semi-reluctant to download the musical app. I mean, do I really need another app to organize my tunes when my Motorola Droid X already has a built-in music app? The answer is yes.

I was quickly won over by the Songbird app's cute birdie icon, soothing purple color scheme and intuitive layout. On your home page are selections for playlists, artists, songs, album, genres and a search. A cool feature streams photos of the artist playing via Flickr. And, it's super easy to share your new favorite musical selections with friends on Facebook with a quick tap of a button in the Songbird Beta app.

It took me a while to figure out how to add songs to playlists created in the app, though. FYI, you go to an individual song, and hold your finger on it for a few seconds, and the option will pop up to add to an existing playlist. The playlist creation definitely could use a little help. I would rather have the option to select songs to add to the playlist as soon as I create the playlist.

Honestly, I just enjoy seeing that little headphone-wearing birdie icon on my Android phone!
