APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

4 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: Free
  • TASTY: Great graphics; four-player online multiplayer mode.
  • BUMMER: Can be tough to play alone.
  • COOL: Optimized for tablets with Tegra 2 processors.

A great-looking 3D melding of the tower defense and role-playing game genres, Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave makes excellent use of tablet power.

The game is one of the first mobile titles to use the powerful 3D rendering software called Unreal Engine 3, and Second Wave is optimized specifically for tablets using the Tegra 2 processor from NVIDIA. As such, it’s beautiful on the big screen. The game is all about setting up defenses in a dungeon to stop monsters from destroying a crystal. You can play as one of four characters on your own and help to defend the crystal with swords and sorcery, or you can join up with as many as three other players online.

Second Wave pushes mobile technology and is pretty and colorful on big tablet screens. It will give role-playing game fans a good time and its online options add a lot to the experience.
