Early Bird is an Android game with plenty of personality

by Caitlin M. Foyt

There are a lot of games out there featuring birds that are angry, tiny or swim, but Early Bird does bring something unique to the marketplace: It's a very pretty little game.

This puzzle game plays off of that whole “early bird gets the worm” expression, and to clear a level, players must, literally, get their talons on a worm.

To play, drag your finger across the screen to create a path for your blue bird — one that will somehow lead to the worm's hole. The challenge, though, is that you only get so many of these swipes per level, so you have to use them wisely.

To makes things interesting, the game throws a number of hurdles your way, including changing terrain (steep cliffs), thorns and swinging blocks. Other, more friendly objects — like spring-equipped flowers and gusts of wind — will help you on your way.

Early Bird also has a lot of levels and environments to unlock, which is bound to keep you busy for a while.

The game isn't exactly groundbreaking, but it does have a lot of personality. It has a quirky art style with a soundtrack to match. The blue bird sobs uncontrollably when you lose, and the worm character has a lot of attitude: He'll stick his tongue out at you and make sarcastic remarks when you do well.

Overall, Early Bird is worth a download.
