Cut the Rope features a candy-eating monster named Om Nom. If that doesn't add at least some spice to your typical puzzle game, it's hard to say what will.
In this physics puzzler, the objective is to feed your little green monster some mouth-watering sweet treats. In order to do this, you have to strategically cut the ropes so the candy will fall into his mouth. You just have to swipe your finger across the screen to get cutting.
There are a few power-ups scattered throughout the levels, such as bubbles that will make your candy float. There are also a few obstacles that will make things more complicated, such as the spiders that crawl out to steal the candy.
When you complete a level quickly enough, you'll earn stars — and the more stars you collect, the more levels you can unlock. After a few rounds of course, you'll notice that the rope patterns will start to become more difficult and might take a bit longer to solve. It's the challenge, though, that makes this game so fun and addicting.
The game is also quite forgiving, allowing you to redo the levels as many times as you like. Because, it seems, there's often more than one solution to a puzzle, this certainly gives Cut the Rope a lot of replay value.
The game's graphics are bright and appealing, and the game's animation is smooth. In fact, during my time spent with Cut the Rope, I didn't encounter any issues at all.
One feature I especially liked about the game was its sound effects. The music is catchy, Om Nom loudly gulps down treats, or he will sigh if you don't get him his candy. These little effects are what really sell the cheesy graphics and help to make the game fun.
This is a challenging, yet not-too-challenging, puzzle game that's appropriate for people of all ages. It's probably one of the better games in the genre in the Android marketplace — definitely worth the $1 download.
