SUPER WHY! ($0.99)

Important note: This app is exclusively available via the Amazon Appstore.

Beginning readers rejoice! The PBS show SUPER WHY! Comes to Android in the form of four games compiled into one app.

This falls into the “so much fun you don’t know you’re learning” category. The four games cover fill-in-the-blank words, simple spelling, find the rhyme, and the always-entertaining stickers!

Let your kids get to know the characters Super Why, Princess Presto, Wonder Red, and Alpha Pig.

Chess Defense (Free)

Chess goes so deep that you can create an entire game from just a portion of the whole.

In Chess Defense you play as either a knight or a bishop. Your mission is to stop an army of pawns from capturing your piece. No other pieces are involved. You must dodge, weave, and capture the pawns to survive. You start with three lives. To power up, you’ll have to clear the board of pawns.

While a complete game unto itself, you can use it to teach the moves of knights, bishops, and pawns to beginners.
