Fresh Android Games for Apr. 5: SketchRace, Eight Queens

by Ian Black

Bring a board game with you wherever you are with SketchRace. Use Eight Queens to solve a classic alternative to chess on your Android.

SketchRace (Free)

Need a game to play while on the road? SketchRace to the rescue.

You’ll have to print out a game board at SketchRace.com, but everything else you need is right here in the app – including words to sketch, a die to roll, a timer, and instructions on how to play.

It’s like Pictionary in that you sketch pictures of words for others to guess. Play with four or more players anywhere where you have your Android. Adjust the timer settings, view the word history, and even randomly generate your team’s name.

Chess may be known as "the game of kings," but it’s not the only game played on that board with those pieces.

Eight Queens is a chess alternative that’s been around awhile. It’s great to have in an app because very few people have the eight queens required to play this game. You must place eight queens on an 8x8 board such that none of them are able to capture another.

In the app, you can save a game and reload it later. When you place the queens, highlight hints will help you see which spaces are not available to use for the remaining queens – if you need them.
