Android App Video Review: Geared

by Erik Fikkert

Geared is a small puzzle game by PlayfulArt that forces the player to take different size gears and combine them in order to power the blue gears in the level. In order to do this, players have a selection of gears to drag into the area.

There is a yellow gear that is constantly running and users must stack each gear in a way that will eventually catch the blue gear and spin it. As I began to play, I was excited to see the challenges ahead of me. But not until level 20 was a new concept even introduced. Each level just blew by and it felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again.

Once level 20 hit, I was introduced to multiple blue gears and no drop zones that began to freshen the game up slightly. But I still didn't find it too much of a challenge and the lack of any uniqueness made the game feel very repetitive and mundane. After playing for a while I began to feel like I was working more than playing and eventually set the game down.

Don't get me wrong, it is definitely a puzzle game. But with all the wonderful ones out on the market right now, I was struggling to find a reason to keep this one on my phone. The game just was a little too simple for me personally. It is in the Android Market for free so grab it and try it out for yourself.
