Shift Puzzle Game for Android will flip your world upside down

by Caitlin M. Foyt

Shift Puzzle Game for your Android phone has changed the rules on what it means to be a brainteaser app. A nice change of pace from your typical platformer, Shift will flip your world upside down. Literally.

In this adventure puzzle game, you are subject number 12378. You're trapped in some weird experiment — a black and white, topsy-turvy world — and you desperately need to escape. To do this, jump from platform to platform in order to get to and turn the key that opens the exit. The fun part, though, is that when you hit the "Shift" button, the entire level flips, and your character will be able to move in ways that you weren't previously able to.

The art style isn't complex, it's just a little shadow man moving around, but, when combined with music that sounds like it's pulled from an old Humphrey Bogart film, a very mysterious and suspenseful tone is perfectly captured. This tiny element makes the game a lot more interesting and fun.

While this game's controls seem to respond really well to my touch, their placement isn't ideal. Because they're tucked way over to the side of the screen, instead of sitting right beside or beneath the action, I never did get the hang of how to move around quickly. In a game where you're being timed, this becomes irritating.

In the time I sat down and gave Shift Puzzle Game a go, I must admit I had difficulty pulling myself away. This game is very challenging, fun and has an original concept. If you enjoy puzzles even a little bit, download this app.
