"Cut the Rope" copycat lands first in Android Market

New & upcoming games

The holidays may be over, but the winter chill is still around. If a real skiing trip isn’t your idea of winter sports fun, try the new Penguin Skiing 3D game for Android. Race your blubbery bird down snow-covered slopes, catching as many fish as possible along the way. Launched over the weekend, this game already has more than 10k downloads.

Cut the Rope is a popular iPhone game that’s slotted for an Android release, but some copycats have already beaten them to the Market. Rope Cut is a shameless rip-off of the popular game, where feeding your green creature is a matter of timing and skill. At the very least, you can enjoy the fake version until the real one comes out.

Handmark is gearing up for another Android release as well, opening a private beta for the upcoming Armor Games. Announced late last year, Armor Games is a black and white game, full of comic-like pixeled art. Jump from one platform to another, overcoming each obstacle in order to solve this mystery.

Network launch

With so many games now being developed for Android devices, we’re seeing a growing number of game networks as well. Extent is the latest company to launch such a network, this one acting like a Netflix for games. For a monthly subscription fee, you get unlimited, on-demand access to its 2,000 titles.
