Zenonia 2 tops Fresh Android Games of the Week

by Caitlin M. Foyt

Despite the holiday slowdown, there were still plenty of cool Android games to keep us busy this week. Check out the sequel to the popular RPG game Zenonia, Zynga's Facebook poker for Android devices, a huge action/RPG title, a fun jumping game, and another entry for the match-three genre.

Zenonia 2: Lost Memories (Android) $4.99

The sequel to Gamevil’s action RPG Zenonia, Zenonia 2: Lost Memories offers up a completely new cast of adventure-hungry characters. Players can choose from four different characters to pick up hidden gems and eventually save the world from its impending doom. They can also collect loot, complete side missions and level up. This game also offers up “asynchronous online” player vs player battles.

The developers have said that this game stays pretty true to the original so there’s a good chance that if you liked Zenonia, you’ll probably get a kick out of its follow up.

Zynga Poker (Android) FREE

A popular Texas Hold'em poker game on Facebook has just made it’s way into the Android Market. Zynga Poker allows Android users to play Texas Hold'em with up to nine other players at an online poker table. This app uses your Facebook account information, so if you don’t have a Facebook account, you will need to create one before you can deal in and play. This game supposedly attracts 6 million players daily. It must be popular to Facebook users for a reason, right? This particular version of the game of poker is free, so it’s certainly worth checking out.

Dungeon Defenders: First Wave (Android) $2.99

Dungeon Defenders is a gorgeous 3D game that mixes tower defense gameplay with action-RPG elements. It’s a role playing game that designates players into one of four different hero classes. The game takes place in a fantasy setting where players control the young apprentices of wizards and warriors and defend against hordes of monsters. The fact that there are traps to be laid and defenses to be plotted makes it a sort of strategy game. You can choose to either play by yourself or play with your friends.

Please note that this game is larger than 600 MB and may take longer than the allotted 15 minute refund window for you download it. Make sure that your phone is on the suggested devices list before you attempt to purchase it. Android users with older devices will experience some lag and should not buy the game.

Mega Jump (Android) FREE

A popular game on the iPhone platform has just made its way over to Android. Mega Jump is a jumping game in which you propel yourself through the air and avoid falling to your death by collecting coins and power-ups. Some of these power-ups give you a boost, inflating you like a balloon or turning you into a coin magnet. The higher you fly, the more coins you collect and therefore the more points you earn. If you spend some time playing, you might even unlock some new characters. Just be sure to keep on the lookout for dangerous obstacles and enemies. It is also important to note that there is another Mega Jump app, a wallpaper, that’s listed in the marketplace for $0.99. The Mega Jump game you’re looking for is free.

Jade Monkey (Android) $4.99

Although Jade Monkey appears to be yet another jewel-swapping game in the Android Market, its production values and adventure element should make it a cut above the rest. Swap jewels vertically and horizontally to form multiple matches and create bonuses. Unlock cool magic jewels, special powers, and attempt to unravel the mystery of the colorful rain forest to hunt down the temple treasure within.

At $4.99, Jade Monkey is a little pricey, especially as it seems to be a port of a popular Flash game, but if you’re crazy for the match-three genre and want a good one on-the-go, it’s worth a look.
