Android App Video Review: Galcon

by Erik Fikkert

Galcon is one of the most intense strategy games you will play on your Android phone.

It's also one of the simplest to learn and get addicted to. You're tasked with protecting and dominating the planets around you and eliminating your opponent before they take you out. No two games play the same and each game could last anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes. You start off Galcon in control of just one planet. The number listed on your planet is the number of troops that you have available.

When the game officially starts, you'll notice that your opponent has a planet with a number on it as well. Your goal is to eliminate your opponent by attacking his planets. Unfortunately it's not as simple as just going for their main planet. Each of the other planets on the screen have a number on them. That's how many ships it will take to occupy that planet. But that only turns the planet your color. You can let that planet slowly build more ships or you can send more over there. The larger the planet, the faster the number generates. That makes it a much more intense strategy game when you or your opponent immediately spread out and start amassing your troops.

Don't write Galcon off as being simple. If you've mastered a level on single player, try WiFi or a harder difficulty. The game isn't anything amazing to look at but you won't be focused on graphics when your opponent is pummeling your planets. Check it out.
