Fresh Android Apps for July 9: London 2012 Results, Ski Safari, Draw Race 2

by Marty Gabel

To start the week off right and prepare for the upcoming Olympics in London, check out London 2012 Results, an app that should keep you in touch with all the news, events and winners once the competition gets underway. Next up is Ski Safari, an endless runner with a cute and quirky style and some truly addictive gameplay. Finally, we’ve got Draw Race 2 which turns auto racing into something a bit more strategic with its unique control method.

London 2012 Results (Free)

Sitting alongside the London 2012 Join In app comes the London 2012 Results app. Sure, it’s a little early, seeing as we’ve still got a few weeks before the Olympic Games commence on July 27, but this app will ensure that you’re prepared and ready at the very least.

The official London 2012 Results app will keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, schedules and results from both the Olympics and Paralympics. It features live scores, medal tables, details of every sport, athlete profiles and a day-to-day calendar of events.

Ski Safari ($0.99)

Before you dismiss Ski Safari as just another ‘endless runner,’ take another look and you’ll see why this winter-themed casual game was such a big hit on iOS. You play as Sven, a skier who’s riding the slopes escaping from an ever-encroaching avalanche.

As you go, you’ll hitch rides on penguins, yetis, eagles and more as you ski your way to safety. Collecting coins and doing backflips or crazy jumps (as well as surfing clouds) will see your multiplier extend for bigger points. Let’s hope the challenges and customization present in the iOS version will be added to this Android port soon.

Draw Race 2 ($2.99)

Draw Race 2 is a racing game with a unique control system that makes it more like a puzzle game. Instead of simply tilting to steer or pressing buttons to speed up or slow down, players need to trace the route of their vehicle before the race begins (speeding up and slowing down the trace as necessary) then sit back and watch how they did.

There’s an extensive single player campaign with a massive 180 challenges to get through and plenty of cool stuff to unlock. You can also race against your friends with the hot seat mode, or online with the friend challenge mode. Draw Race 2 features highly-detailed graphics, good physics and a strategic element not found in most racers.
