Android App Video Review: GLWG: All Out War

by Andrew Koziara

For those of you who have yet to check out Great Little War Game, you should do so immediately. It's easily one of best turn-based strategy games on mobile devices, despite its simplistic nature. Rubicon Development is hard at work on the highly anticipated sequel Great Big War Game, but in the meantime, they've thrown us some table scraps to keep us busy until then. Enter GLWG: All Out War, a simple stand-alone expansion of the first game with several new maps and two new campaigns to enjoy, all with the same refined gameplay and amusing visuals as the original.

Unlike the previous game, the learning curve is pretty much nonexistent. If you have a barracks or vehicle depot in a map, you'll have access to every unit from the get go. It's probably assumed that you're familiar with the original before you play this, but despite that, the opening battles are not all that challenging, and even new players should be able to handle them. Otherwise, this is the same great hexagonal strategy combat as ever. The new campaigns are "All Out War" and "Holiday From Hell." It's great to see more hilarious antics from The Generalissimo and his men as you try to invade a good vacation spot for him. Beating these campaigns once will unlock their higher difficulties.

As I said, the same great cartoony graphics and funny sound bites are all utilized here. You can even change the voice packs of each army to suit your tastes. There are plenty of settings to tweak and this is just an overall polished and well made expansion. You should definitely check out the original first if you haven't, but if you're a fan of strategy games and this series, you definitely shouldn't miss out on this two dollar title. Now we wait for the real sequel…
