Fresh Android Apps for Jan. 26: Red Hot Chili Peppers, GBikes Demo, Sonic 4 Episode I

by Ian Black

Today’s fresh apps all go fast! Fast music (Red Hot Chili Peppers), fast driving (GBikes Demo), and fast spiny mammals (Sonic 4 Episode 1). Slip an anti-shock cover over your Android and press INSTALL.

Red Hot Chili Peppers (Free)

Love them or hate them, there is no denying that the Red Hot Chili Peppers brought the sound of LA (as in Los Angeles) rock to the world. This app provides the official mobile experience of the band. You’ll find the news, photos, videos, and be able to buy tracks from their latest album, “I’m with You.”

Want to get a little closer to the action? Check the tour updates for your favorite city and plan to see the band in person.

GBikes Demo (Free)

Want to go for a ride? How about driving an anti-gravity space bike on a racecourse of the future? Choose the style and color of your motorcycle, the hit the road, er, tube. You actually drive each of the twisting, turning, tubular racetracks forward, then in reverse, and then on the outside of the tube.

Expect six different worlds, varying soundtracks, and absolutely mind-blowing graphics of exotic sci-fi landscapes and rocket-paced racing. For sharing the fun, check out the beta of the multiplayer feature.

Sonic 4 Episode 1 ($3.99)

What’s old is new again. The classic Sega Genesis game console’s blockbuster star was a little, speedy hedgehog named Sonic. The releases featuring this roadrunner ended 16 years ago with a game called Sonic and Knuckles and this new sequel picks up right where that game left off.

Use all the classic Sonic moves and try the brand-new Homing Attack through four zones, each containing four stages, as well as seven unlockable special stages. Two exclusive levels were specifically designed for using your Android’s accelerometer. Dr. Eggman beware!
