Fling a Thing is a great little casual time waster from developers Big Blue Bubble. These are the same guys who gave us the innovative Burn the Rope games. It's a very simple concept with a colorful, charming art style, and while it won't satisfy the more hardcore crowd, it's a neat little experience worth trying out.
The whole point of the game is to climb higher and higher by, well, flinging a thing. Every time you reach a new level, you'll have to collect all the bubbles before you're allowed to climb to the next one. You only have a limited number of moves to make, though they're replenished in a multitude of ways. By utilizing various collectible power-ups and smart timing, you'll have to collect every bubble in as few moves as possible.
As you play, you'll collect two important items; fruits and stars. Stars are used to buy all the various upgrades and extras in the game. Fruit can be used to feed your Things in the feed mode, which gives you more stars. You can unlock new types of Things, new level themes, and upgrades to the different collectibles which will help you go even higher. You can gain extra stars in a few different ways for free, or you can just buy them in-app. In this simple game with no story or online support, I really recommend you don't spend any extra money. Unless you just want to support the developers. In that case, by all means…
The art style and sound set a nice tone for the game, and are generally pleasing. OpenFeint is supported, but there are no achievements or leaderboards at all, which seems kind of pointless to me, but whatever. In the end, this game is just a casual title meant to pass the time when you're waiting in line or something. Not very compelling, but well made and enjoyable. It's also a very original concept, just like Burn the Rope, and it totally gets extra points for that. It also happens to be free, so give it a download and see what you think.
