Sinister Planet

Sinister Planet is one of those games that you stumble upon in the Market and the first thing you read is 'Defender, Sinistar, Galaga, Asteroids, R-Type...Sinister Plantet'. Now that's quite a claim having listed the biggest names in classic shooter history. But when you first play the game you will quickly see the resemblances. First of all this game isn't your typical side scrolling shooter. It is played from a top down view with your controller/thruster in the bottom left corner and your firing button can be placed along the right side. That's it, except for one thing...it incorporates quasi-realistic zero-friction physics. In short that means when you thrust your ship forward it will slide when you let go of the thruster. This adds a very realistic sense of movement in space as there are no air brakes and there is no traction. Players must shoot down the various aliens that they encounter and destroy asteroids to gain gems and gold asteroids for extra money as well as the odd power up. If an alien captures your gem you have to shoot them down quickly or they will transform into a stronger enemy that will hunt your ship down. Money buys power ups in between waves of enemies. You can upgrade various things like weapons, shield, engines, restore health, add a turret and more. The Dev just added a new level feature to destroy the planets as you hover over the surface and shoot down everything. The resolution on the planets is incredible. This game certainly steps away from the norm and adds different game elements to combine into something special. The developer is always updating and improving the game and other developers on the Market should take note. Download the demo and try it out. See you on the leaderboard.
