This app is a constant source of amusement. It's similar to the barcode scanning idea, but you can take pictures of anything, and it will do a Google search for it! Now, while labels and whatnot work best, it's such fun to take pics of friend and see what comes back. A picture of my sister returned a picture of a monkey, so...you know...pretty accurate...

Useful and fun

This app has some great uses - trying to figure out what that foreign street sign says, searching the web for a similar item to the one you're standing in front of, but best of all it's an amusing time filler.

Take a picture of your best friend and search the web! When my friend and I first played with this app I ended up being a cherry, or a red balloon (because I have bright ducati red hair), and she turned into a my little pony and other such pink kids toys (she has pink hair). Took a picture of my cat and yup, you guessed it, a lolcat came up.

While this may not be exactly as it's intended to be used, quite honestly it makes this app full of awesome.

Cool but no there yet.

I'm not gonna troll on this. It works more often than it doesn't and image recognition and analysis like that is difficult.

But one can still dream of the day when you're gonna point your phone at the tree and it will tell you what type of tree it is.

Soon, very very soon!

This app is unbelievable! Take a photo of practically anything and the app will identify it and find it on the web. If it can't find the image, it will bring up similar images instead. Wow!

Cool concept, snap a picture of something and have Google retrieve search-results based on just an image. However, I still think there can still be a bit of improvement in recognition

Great app, when it works

This app was actually developed by my ex-boyfriend and I lived with him while he built it. He's a serious expert in machine vision. The technology here is absolutely amazing - you snap a photo and the app searches Google for what you've taken a photo of, comparing it to all the images in the Google library using said advanced image comparison. The only thing about this app is that it really doesn't work most of the time because the library for comparison is still too small - still - plenty of potential here!

Have photos tell you what you see

Goggles can help you with what you are seeing. Snap a photo of a building (Golden Gate bridge) and Google Goggle can tell you it is the Golden Gate bridge and provide you additional information. Latest upgrades also help you solve Sudoku puzzles and more.

Negative points, can only be used with a data connection (roaming charges) and sometimes the app has difficulties in 'reading' the photos because they are too dark or there is flare on them.

It's great when it works!

It's a great app when it works, but it sometimes burps. Still it's great to get instant search results based on a picture!

How do they do this?

I haven't researched the tech behind this app, but regardless, it's very cool to be able to snap a picture of something and have an app tell you what it is. It's amazing actually....when it works that is. I find more often than not the app gets objects wrong. Maybe it's because the 8mp camera on my phone is terrible or maybe my hand is too shaky. It's still a very cool app that I'd recommend to anyone.

Love the concept, but Google Goggles needs to de-fog

I love Google. I love their Labs projects, and I really got behind the concept of Goggles. I mean, really. Searching with pictures? Love this. I've even seen really cool results when my friends have used this app.

But for me? Nada. Maybe I'm not a great photographer, or maybe I'm choosing the wrong subjects. Something just doesn't quite work.

It took me about four tries to snap a photo that the app could recognize. At Goggles' suggestion, I used the crop tool to remove anything distracting, and took the clearest possible photo of the AT&T logo on my tv remote. And...the result that was returned was a basketball.

Maybe Google needs prescription goggles?

OK

This app was a bit of a let down. I expected so much more from this. The Savvy Barcode scanner is much better.

I can't help it. Not a fan.

This app SEEMS like a good idea. And I haven't deleted it yet because it's fun to try it out once inawhile and see if it recognizes ANYTHING. But this app, which uses the barcode scanner to capture an image of an item and look up its information, doesn't seem to know much.

If it can't scan and recognize a red Swingline stapler - with the logo showing - I think it needs a little more work.

A neat idea, but not useful

This was a cool idea, but it isn't really usable. It's worth playing with to see the enhanced reality, but I wouldn't use it more than a couple of times.
