Saperle says: Do you excel at pub quizzes? Can you recite large swaths of Monty Python sketches? Have you seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer one too many times? Are you Vulcan? If not, it's okay--you can practice with these pop culture trivia quiz apps.
Saperle's picks
  1. Star Wars Trivia - Ep. V
Star Wars Trivia - Ep. V This developer actually has an app for each of the 6 Star Wars movies (though not for the Clone Wars or any of the Extended Universe) so I picked Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back in the possibly futile hope that people will realize that Darth Vader never actually said "Luke, I am your father." A solid multiple choice app that lets you pick 10, 20, 50, or unlimited questions (unlimited without qualification, or unlimited until you get 5 wrong). You have 30 seconds to answer each question. My only complaint is that some of the longer questions get cut off on my Motorola Droid when it is held vertically.
  2. The Return of the King Trivia
The Return of the King Trivia Another timed multiple choice trivia quiz, which has versions also available for The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, this app offers games of 10, 20, or '3 strikes you're out.' The questions, for which you get 20 seconds to answer, consist entirely of quotations from the Lord of the Rings movies by Peter Jackson, with the object of identifying the character who spoke the line.
  3. Buffy - QuoteTrivia
Buffy - QuoteTrivia This untimed multiple choice quiz gives you ten questions at a time based on a scene or quotation from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with the object being to identify either the speaker or which episode the scene is from. If you get one wrong, you start over again. The game's format is a little less polished than the others, but the text is easier to read and you are able to scroll down if the question is based on a longer scene.
  4. Harry Potter Trivia: Book 1
Harry Potter Trivia: Book 1 In the same format as the earlier mentioned Star Wars trivia game, this multiple choice quiz focuses on the first book of the Harry Potter series (and, like the others, has other versions of the same app for each of the Harry Potter novels). This quiz has more ads than the others, which makes it a bit more annoying.
  5. Monty Python Holy Grail Trivia
Monty Python Holy Grail Trivia KEEPER: What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? ARTHUR: What do you mean? An African or European swallow? Sorry, I had to. This app is in the same format as the Lord of the Rings trivia quiz--10, 20, or 3-strikes questions, 20 second time limit, and you have to identify the speaker of each quote. I've had this one crash a few times, however.
  6. GoldenGirls - QuoteTrivia
GoldenGirls - QuoteTrivia While not quite the same genre of geek as the earlier quizzes, I maintain it belongs on this list since the Golden Girls seems to inspire the same kind of obsessive devotion from its fans. This quiz is in the same format as the Buffy the Vampire Slayer quiz mentioned before--10 questions, no time limit, identify the speaker or episode of a quotation or scene.
  7. TV Trivia: Star Trek
TV Trivia: Star Trek Much like the Star Wars and Harry Potter trivia games, but without a nice design--instead of a star field like the Star Wars game, it has a white background with a tv on it. Still, the quiz is more comprehensive than many already mentioned here, incorporating the entire Star Trek universe, from the original series to the movies, Kirk to Picard.
