says: I have been learning Japanese for a few months now and I've run across a few good apps for helping me get there. I administer a group on Palringo for that purpose and think it would be nice for someone just getting into learning Japanese to have a list of helpful apps.
Human Japanese Lite
Start here. Learn hiragana and a few simple words, phrase, and culture. This is a great preview for the full app.
Amazing app. Teaches so much Japanese from a very English perspective. This app resumes where the Lite version left off.
This is a great app for quizzing yourself on the kana. You can break things up into hiragana and katakana if you haven't yet learned one.
You'll need this for the Japanese dictionary, as it's the base app. Good dictionary app all-around.
You can actually speak English or Japanese to this app and it will translate for you. This is good for checking your pronunciation or word memory.
Simeji (Japanese Keyboard)
This is a good input method for your hiragana, katakana, and kanji. After all, you need to be able to type in Japanese every once in a while.
