Review for MoMA

APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

4 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: Free
  • TASTY: Art, audio, text and information about New York City’s Museum of Modern Art
  • BUMMER: ot quite tablet-optimized; bigger photos of featured art would be nice.
  • COOL: Learn about artists and exhibits, then buy a ticket to visit the museum in person.

Browse New York’s Museum of Modern Art wherever you are with MoMA, the museum’s free app. It includes just about everything you could want, short of walking through the galleries themselves.

A huge amount of content is available including photos of the pieces of art, audio tracks about exhibits, their history and biographical information about the artists. There’s a whole lot to learn here, which is great for interested users who can’t make it out to New York. But if you can, MoMA has resources to help you plan your visit to the museum, too.

The app is a bit lacking in its tablet optimization. Photos could often stand to be bigger, though they often look great. Still, not making better use of big, high-res screens with so much art found within feels like a waste.

For art lovers, grabbing MoMA for free is absolutely a no-brainer. There’s way too much to see, hear and learn to pass up.
